A self-evaluation test is a salient tool in the life of an individual. It helps to expose one’s weaknesses and strengths. It is less of a tool that guides an individual through conducting a personal SWOT analysis. Furthermore, it can be used by far to bring to the light areas of interest of a person to determine his career of choice. At some point, I had to do this by laying strategies of my passion for nursing courses over any other courses, which made me believe that it would guide me in choosing my dream career in response to this project.
Through a critical analysis of my PDRJs, I understood some of the things that made me chose my career over those other areas of interest or, rather, the many fields around the world. The self-analysis helped me a great deal in understanding that I was really obsessed with any medical attention-related behaviour, and I would always rush to offer help in situations that called for such attention regardless of how little my contribution would be. I usually got less interested in offering any other kind of service, which made me realise how passionate I really was about helping people through medical support, which boosted me towards choosing my dream career in the nursing profession.

Some years back, we had attended a youth conference, and there were a lot of activities going around through the three days we were at the conference. One of the leaders asked us to volunteer ourselves to join the first aid team that would stand in place and offer immediate help for those who fell victims to such immediate responses. I looked at this as the best way towards helping me through conducting a self-evaluation, and I decided to be one of the members. I at first thought it would be a hard task for me; little did I know that I would finally become the team leader for the group I was assigned. Many praises came from all ends, and I at first thought I was all in the land of fantasy. It dawned on me that indeed I was in real-life exposure when my best friend fainted, and without hesitation, I took it upon myself to offer him first aid. I did all I could, combining the little training we have been taken through to what I thought was right. He was smiling back at me in not more than 15 minutes, and it really made me feel something different. The feeling and the excitement was that of bringing somebody back to life. It was later revealed that all my group members had tried attending to him with their efforts bearing no fruits for not less than thirty minutes. I really felt motivated, and something in the back of my mind told me that if I ventured into medical courses, chances of being an outstanding medical officer/ personnel would be high. My life took another dimension into choosing and following this path. It gave me a double motivation, and I vow to myself that indeed I would work towards seeing to it that indeed I would have the title of medical personnel under my name.
Also, I remember a day we were out for drama festivals, we were being assigned roles, and I almost fought with a friend of mine who chose to play a medical officer role in the drama. I advocated for the role to the point that I threatened to withdraw from participating if I was not given the role. Upon realising the conflict between us, the director decided to take us through trials and assign the best person. We both took to the roles and rehearsed the scripts perfectly before it was finally time to make our presentations on stage. At first, I thought my friend would emerge triumphant, considering he was three grades ahead of me, and he seemed to have too much knowledge when it came to dramatisation. In fact, he had brought so many trophies tour schools as the best actor in the country. I told myself that I finally had to pull out and allow him to be assigned the role, but I still had the self-drive to sojourn and give it a try. What amused me the most were the results; the director called for the accolade to my count and labelled me as the ‘future nurse’. He said that I played the part so real and made everything outstanding and easy. He could hardly believe that it was a part of the script he had written. He promised to make me meet one of his friends, a senior doctor who owned one of the biggest private hospitals, as he already felt that from past presentation would perfectly fit if I was assigned any responsibility there. This came as enlightenment to me, realising my potential and developing my passion growing it more. Ever since I would always add a doctorate titles before my name, I felt that there was a doctor in me.
I remember a time when my principal, during the school prize giving day, was welcoming the guest of honour. Upon mentioning the word doctor, and considering we shared a name, and many of my friends called me doctor, I stood up and walked to the dais to address the people. At first, everybody thought I was headed in a different direction until they saw me head straight to the dais. My principal signalled me with a facial expression that portrayed full of anger. To my rescue, the quest of honour reacted first and called me over to his sit. He gave me a book under the title a solution to opportunistic disease and asked me to sit where he had been sitting and told me after his presentation. He would call me over to speak about opportunistic diseases in a brief impromptu speech. Sitting on a seat reserved for the quest of honour alone gave me a feeling that I already was a doctor. I took an interest in the book, conducted a quick analysis and as he had promised, he called me over. All the people present, including my own mother, could not hide their joy seeing a student-doctor making a presentation. The principal was in total disbelieve, and he listened to my presentation a shocked man. The quest of honour put it across that; indeed, I was an exceptional student, and he could not hide his joy when he said that the same task he gave to me, he had given it to a professional nurse graduate, but she could not even present half of what I presented. This, to me, seemed just flattered to make me feel good but, he later presented her speech in a short video, and everybody could not believe it. I could not hide my joy, and the next day, I was assigned as the prefect in charge of the school’s medical facility. All these exposures and privileges helped greatly expose me to something I was really passionate about. It gave me the intrinsic motivation to realise my passion and choose my career as a professional nurse.
In my last experience, I remember in a science congress, and we were to choose between the best method for offering care to accident patients who needed immediate medical attention. I had never been exposed to such individuals before, and most of my friends failed in the presentations for showing sympathy to their fictional patients. Inside me, I felt that sympathising with the patients would put me in a poor position emotionally, and it might make me break down and lose control, and I will not be able to offer the attention as intended. I borrowed the knowledge of guidance and counselling into helping a great deal to come up with the best. My presentation came at the top of all other presentations, and it made me feel as if I was a professional already. It made me feel that I would be a successful future be professional nurse, and I wanted to put everything I had been doing back in school into practical, real-life situations. This helped a great deal in paving the way for me to choose my dream career as a nursing professional. I felt that, indeed, I was already a nurse from the beginning and what was remaining was nothing but working towards living to the dream and making it real.
In conclusion, all my previous exposures, privileges and participations helped me by far in realising my passion and opening more doors to a successful pathway to getting to it. Furthermore, it gave me the strength and the courage to move on and, more distinctly, realise that, indeed, there was too much ahead of me that called for attention in actualising my dreams. It has led me by associating my past discoveries and experiences and making it easy for me to have the directions to my career as a professional nurse. For those with passion about anything in life, the use of this journal will help shape them a milestone into seeing to it that they remain on track about whatever they are passionate about, as it will serve as a guide toward leading them to their future career. The following of passion and nurturing is key. Everybody must conduct thorough self-evaluation of what makes them feel alright, as following this performs wonders in the individual’s life.
