Nurs 432 Nursing

Nursing 432 is a 4 credit course and thus there is an expectation that the curriculum will include application of theory to practice. To assist you in accomplishing this you will find four Application Exercises embedded in this course. Please spend some time working through each of these exercises. The goal is that through these activities you will have a chance to utilize the theory in a practical way that you will take with you into your practice as a leader/manager.

NOTE: To complete this portion of Assignment 5 you will first complete the exercise that follows and then proceed to the Unit 2 Conference and make your posting. Please review the Assessment Overview document in the Study Guide before you make your posting so that you are aware of how your posting will be evaluated. Your tutor will be reviewing your posting to see if you have summarized the key findings you discovered in doing this application exercise. Your posting will achieve the maximum value if it is succinct and insightful showing clearly how you have applied theory learned in the course to the practical situation.

Directions:

1. Make a list of the people that you know (or know of) who you consider to be effective leaders. Choose two of these people and determine which leadership style to they ascribed to. Did they have specific leadership traits, did they use a contingency approach to leadership, were they charismatic leaders?

2. Refer to some of the leaders depicted in the websites that follow – what leadership style did or does each one follow? What were the consequences of their approach to leadership

3. After reviewing the above websites, did you see any consistency in these individuals’ leadership styles? Do you consider them leaders?

4. Make a posting in the Unit 2 conference using the subject line “Application Exercise ? Thoughts on Effective Leadership.” In your posting discuss what you discovered about effective leaders from doing these activities.
