1. Hey again, everyone! Welcome to Module 12. This week we will be building off of the history weve learned in the past few weeks modules on westward expansion, reconstruction, and forced assimilation of the mid to late 1800s as we zoom in on an important battle: The Battle of Greasy Grass, also known as The Battle of Little Bighorn or Custers Last Stand. We will learn about how all of the history weve learned the past few weeks connects to and culminates with this battle, and well also learn about a couple of important Native American leaders in the resistance during this time period.
2. To become acquainted with what happened at the Battle of Greasy Grass and the history leading up to it, please watch the short video, Where Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse Defeated Colonel Custer. While watching, be sure to take careful notes on what led up to the battle, the significance of the battle itself, and any connections to the history weve learned so far.
3. Next, please read the PBS article, A Good Day to Die, which goes into more detail about the battle while providing multiple perspectives and accounts. While reading, again be sure to take notes on what led up to the battle, the significance of the battle, and important connections to the history weve learned. Also, take note of the use of different types of evidence, accounts, and perspectives used, and explain why this is important to consider based on our concept of historical thinking.
4. After, please watch the video, Custers Last Stand A Lakota View. While watching, prepare for this weeks blog post by taking notes on the events leading up to the battle, connections to the history and key terms weve learned so far, and consider the significance of the art analysis. Be ready to discuss the art analysis. Why it is an important historical artifact, and how does it serve an example of historical thinking?
5. Lastly, please complete this weeks Blog #6 assignment by answering all parts of the prompt provided in at least 300 words minimum. Also dont forget to post a response to one peer in at least 150 words minimum. Both posts are due any time this week before the final deadline of 11:59 pm on Monday, November 16.
