Indigenous Racism in the Healthcare System in Canada
This is an Op-Ed(Opinion Editorial). There will be 2 sections. One will be the Op-Ed and the other will be the Critical Reflection. Together these 2 parts together will be 5 pages long. The Op-Ed should be 750-1000 words and the Critical Reflection should be 300-500 words. The Op-Ed and Critical Reflection need to be together as one Document.
Step 1. The focus topic needs to be written on Indigenous Racism in the Canadian Medical Sysystems. It should be written from the persepctive of the “here and now”, remembering that Op-Eds are designed to offer a perspective on local/national/international events or concerns.
Step 2. It should be researched. An Op-Ed differs from a traditional research paper in that youperspective is “front and centre”; you are not expected to be neutral in the writing(in fact, the opposite), nore are you expected to present an objective discussion of ‘all’ sides of the issue. At the same time, your argument must be rigorous and based on facts and evidence. Your research may include analysis of govornment publications, relevant policies, media reports, and/or policy discussion papers and must include peer reviewed journal articles. This must all be done in APA 6 0r 7th edition. It must include a reference list at the end of the Op-Ed
Step 3. Based on the research please write the Op-Ed as if you were writing for a print news source. Keep the audience of your selected newpaper in mind. Please as you write the Op-Ed focus on the message, prespective arguments/evidence/facts, and proposed course of action. Consider the purpose of your advocacy and the ways in which you can best frame your argument to achieve the hoped for outcome.
Remember your goals for the assignment are to: demostrate your critical understanding of the issue that relates to race/racism in Canada in the medial system when it comes to Indigenous people. Please identify the issues that are at the heart of the debate or problem; argue for this particular course of action; and write persuasively.
The Op-Ed needs to include the following:
Title and headings
Timely and newsworthy writing
Central idea/ argument that is supported by facts/evidence from reputable sources
A reference list
Powerful, clear and persuasive writing
A message that leaves a lasting impression with the reader
Step 4: Write the Critical Reflection at the end(300-500 words)
Summarize how the Op-Ed came to fruition, please include how this project was developed (just talke about how I am passionate about this issue in Canada and highlight the reasons why I chose this issue(basically say that I am passionate about issues of Indigenous racism in Canada in the health care system and how that impacts the indigenous people as well as the health care system in Canada and expound on that a bit)
Address the rationale for for framing the argument in the way it was framed. Also, in the critcal reflection, please include the two names of the newspapers (online ) that you had in mind when you wrote this Op-Ed and address why you chose these articles (just go on about how passionate I am about it)
Please include writing in this critical reflection piece about how this issue relates to social work? Why is it significant? for social work, and perhaps more importantly, why is it important for social workers to make sure that our perspectives are heard about this issue?
