Throughout the semester, we’ve been studying the ways modes of communication work from a rhetorical perspective.  You’ve examined what is involved in the concepts of literacy, cultural narrative, and rhetorical situation; you’ve analyzed modes of text beyond the written word and considered the layers of meaning in a text that uses multiple modes to communicate its message. You’ve also studied the purposes of persuasion, audience needs and expectations, and the effects of different rhetorical styles and strategies.

Now you are being asked to present your own position or argument on a topic of your own choosing, using multiple modes of text to communicate that message.  To assist you, here are some guiding questions you need to be able to answer to design and assemble your project:

•    What is the key idea that you are trying to express with this project?
•    Which modes of communication (linguistic, visual, aural, spatial, and gestural) seem best suited
to expressing your key idea?
•    In what ways will design elements (emphasis, color, contrast, organization, alignment, proximity) add meaning to your project?
•    What genre choice combines these modes and design elements the most effectively?  Why?
•    What are the conventions of that genre
•    What do you see as the relationship between content (your message) and form (your genre) in your project?
