Like every other research project, I will likely experience several challenges in obtaining cooperation from my respondents. One of the challenges that I might experience is first convincing the respondents to participate in the research. As of presently, this discourse has only identified the people required for the research to be successful. However, their willingness to participate in the research is yet to be ascertained. The next challenge is ensuring that the respondents that we have identified participate in the research to completion. This stage is critical since several studies have shown that incomplete participation due to not contacting the required participants or their refusal to participate leads to biased research (MRA & Moscowitz-Jacobs, 2015). The other cooperation challenge that I might experience is in scheduling the participants. Since I will be interacting with senior people at the USAF and equally junior but busy airmen and staff, I might experience challenges getting accommodation within their tight schedules. I might also experience challenges in the discrepancy of the information provided by the different respondents.
However, since I am researching the military, I might face extra challenges in cooperation, especially in bureaucracy and accessibility to information. Hierarchy is highly revered in the military, meaning that obtaining information from the airmen at times will require me to first get approval from their seniors. This status quo also means that access to information is more restricted, unlike in a typical corporation, primarily due to security reasons (Riposo et al., 2015). However, since my research does not lean much into the sensitive aspects of the USAF, I hope that the restrictions will be minimal. The Institutional Review Board requirements might also raise complications in obtaining data due to the numerous approvals required before engaging different respondents. Since my research will include respondents in significantly high-security areas in the USAF, I might experience challenges with the IRB approving interviews and interactions with the individuals.
