Introduction
In Arab-American literature, the voice of a woman is as critical as that of her brother. The first phase of migration to the United States consisted of a majority of male immigrants because of the social structure that was there during that time. This made the women’s writings in the works of early Americans to be hardly scarce (Aziz, Barbara Nimri). The new conditions that brought about stability increased the number of women because of the development of setup family structure and the community as a whole. This happened during the 1st and the 2nd phases. It is after these advancements that Arab-American women were able to enroll in learning institutions from schools to universities (Khadun, Pramila, Koshy, and Bina Biswas). They were able to attain higher qualifications with some of them opting to specialize in the literary genres. In the Arab community, a large percentage of educated and powerful women was witnessed during the 2nd and the 3rd generations. During this period, women became very effective and they vigorously participated in the writings with some of them going beyond the expectations of many and competing favourably making their way to the present time. In the post-eighties, the voice of a woman gained productivity and creativity in Arab-American literature. They took the chance of building up diverse relations with their male counterparts and colleagues from the Western. With time, the Arab women writers were granted a space whereby they can now write their original literary writings and air the specificities of their complex identity both as women, Arabs and writers.
