I’m working on a mechanical engineering question and need a reference to help me learn.
Use 126 Chandler in addressing the following problems.
1. Using NFPA 101, determine the initiating device requirements for 126 Chandler. Only provide requirements as specified within NFPA 101. Provide a thread of section references that support your recommendation.
2.Using the provisions of NFPA 101 and NFPA 72, layout the placement of the initiating devices for 126 Chandler (assume all occupancies within the building require initiating devices). Exact location of devices is not necessary, however, spacing measurements should be indicated with respect to other devices and/or building elements and features to illustrate that the spacing requirements are met. Provide a brief thread of code references supporting how you arrived at your design. Use the provided Lighting RCP plans to locate any ceiling-mounted devices. Coordinate devices with light fixtures. Select a consistent representation of each device type and provide a key illustrating any symbols used to represent specific devices. Include the following assumptions in your design, in addition to those noted above.
-All spaces have flat, unobstructed ceilings.
-Utilize spot-type detection where applicable.
-Base all necessary dimensions from the plans provided.
3.For this problem, assume the exterior rooftop space on the Fifth Floor is enclosed and has a flat, unobstructed ceiling 15 feet above the finished floor (AFF). (You may use the associated floor plan of the space to illustrate device location).
a. Design and layout initiating devices for space, assuming the grill is replaced with a gas burning stove.
b. Assume space is now served by an HVAC system providing 10 minutes per air change for space. Does this alter the initiating device spacing of the room? If so, design and layout the system.
c. Assume space is now served by an HVAC system providing 5 minutes per air change for space. Does this alter the initiating device spacing of the room? If so, design and layout the system.
d.How would this design change if the HVAC system provided 2 minutes per air change of the space? (No need to layout this system).
4. With the enclosed rooftop space configuration described in problem 3 (with 10 minutes per air change of the space provided by the HVAC system) the owner now wishes to install large wooden beams for aesthetic purposes. Provide the initiating device layout if beams are run along the short direction of the space. The beams are spaced approximately 12’-0” on center, are 1’=6” wide, and 2’-0” in depth.
5.The Café on the First Floor has a drop ceiling and uses the space above the ceiling as a return air plenum. Discuss the design options available for this type of configuration.
6. The two Store spaces on the First Floor utilize open grid drop ceilings. Discuss the smoke detector spacing requirements for the two spaces:
a. Store 5 has open grid ceilings with the following characteristics:
i. Grid openings dimensions are 3/8” by 3/8”.
ii. Grid openings account for 73% of the area of the ceiling tiles.
b.Store 6 has open grid ceilings with the following characteristics:
i. Grid openings dimensions are 1/4″ by 1/4″.
ii. Grid openings account for 55% of the area of the ceiling tiles.
7. Provide a cut sheet for each of the types of initiating devices used within this assignment
